Hi Reader
Welcome to the July edition of the GEM 💎 Newsletter
As always, this is your invitation to pause for a few minutes, step away from life, and invest in your own Growth, Expansion, and Momentum.
This month’s thought came from a simple breakfast conversation with my husband.
It reminded me that we all encounter obstacles. Some arrive through changes in our health, unexpected diagnoses, family circumstances, career transitions, or the uncertainty that comes with striving for something bigger.
At the time, these challenges can feel overwhelming.
Like enormous boulders standing firmly in our path.
🌱 Growth Offering: Boulders or Stepping Stones?
When we face a challenge, it often feels larger than life. We see the obstacle, the effort it will require, and everything that could go wrong.
But something interesting happens with time.
When we look back, those same boulders rarely appear as large as they once did. Instead, they become the stepping stones that shape who we are today.
The difficult conversation. The career setback. The health challenge. The unexpected change.
Each one taught us something, strengthened us, or redirected us towards something even better.
So, if you’re facing a boulder today, pause before assuming it’s there to stop you.
Ask instead:
“How might this become the stepping stone I needed?”
Sometimes changing your perspective is the first step towards changing your future.
✍🏽 Journaling Reflection
If you’re currently facing a boulder in your own life, spend a few quiet moments reflecting on these questions:
- What challenge feels biggest to me right now?
- What makes this feel like a boulder?
- What part of this situation is within my control?
- What strengths have helped me overcome previous challenges?
- If I looked back on this a year from now, what lesson might I have learned?
- What is the very next small step I can take today?
Remember, you don’t have to move the whole boulder today.
You simply need to take the next step.
🌿 Wellness Offering: A Different Perspective
When life feels overwhelming, our minds naturally focus on the obstacle rather than the possibilities beyond it.
Try this simple two-minute mindfulness practice.
- Find somewhere quiet.
- Take a slow breath in through your nose for four seconds… and gently breathe out for six.
- As you continue breathing, picture the challenge in front of you as a large boulder.
- Now imagine taking a few steps backwards.
- Notice how the boulder begins to look a little smaller.
- As you continue to step back, imagine seeing a pathway around it—or even stepping onto it and using it to reach higher ground.
- When you’re ready, ask yourself:
“What is one thing I can do today that my future self will thank me for?”
Perspective doesn’t remove the obstacle.
But it often changes how we experience it.
💎 Final Thought
Many of the things we once thought would stop us have become the very experiences that shaped us. Today’s boulder may become tomorrow’s stepping stone. Keep moving forward, one step at a time.
As always, be true to yourself.
Until next time,
